What We Do

Serving as Stewards to Our CommUNITY Since 2001

CPP assists in organizing collaboration with the BPD, DOJ, and the other parties to Baltimore's Consent Decree, to help community organizations and members leverage their voices in the process of reforming the Baltimore Police Department. By utilizing our established relationships with the DOJ, the Independent Monitor, the Consent Decree Implementation Unit, the Office of the Inspector General as well as City Hall, assuming a position of ‘conduit’ for information between BPD, the parties, and the community.

By also sharing their own experiences and initiatives, the CPP will demonstrate ideas on how to organize events, forums, workshops, listening campaigns and community meetings that allow BPD and other agencies to set up both formal and informal interactions with residents and hear the concerns of the commUNITY members.

"Elevate the methods of CPP to encourage Resident participation and effective engagement in the processes of Public Safety"

Saturdays in the Triangle

In April of 2020, H.O.P.E. Baltimore, Making Changes, LLC, and the Citizens Policing Project decided we were going to focus our collaborative efforts to address a community and environment we were intimately familiar with and historically neglected when times are tough, Pennsylvania Ave. Hosted by St. Peter Claver we were able to provide direct service and engagement for 29 consecutive weekends to a population most have disregarded during the pandemic. We have given out over 7000 masks, (over 4000 were made and donated by our neighbors and faith communities in West Baltimore!). We've given out over 3,500 grocery bags, complete with fresh fruit, produce, and enough necessities for a week's worth of meals, not to mention 1000's of lunches and breakfasts. We've canvassed hundreds of businesses ensuring they had signage on the latest regulations on COVID-19 and continue to ensure the message is getting out there to keep our residents safe.

This has been an inspiring community sustained effort, outside of the contributions from the National Philanthropic Trust and In for of, Inc., all of this was made possible by YOU, our neighbors, families, friends and dedicated Stewards to our City. I share the many thanks we receive from those your commitment to our efforts benefits every week.
